On May 22, during the Cyberport AI Frontier 2026 forum, the Smart Policing Joint Innovation Lab was inaugurated by the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) in collaboration with Cyberport. This initiative aims to address technology-driven crime, particularly focusing on large-scale fraud and deepfake issues, leveraging the resources of Cyberport's AI Supercomputing Centre. Chief Superintendent Raymond Lam noted that over 31,000 tech crime incidents were reported last year, resulting in losses amounting to HK$6.3 billion. The lab will improve defenses against deepfakes and enhance threat detection capabilities. Cyberport Chairman Simon Chan highlighted the importance of reliable AI, while Police Commissioner Joe Chow advocated for stronger partnerships with the technology sector. Cyberport also supports more than 30 cybersecurity firms and intends to host additional forums and governance initiatives.
