Hong Kong Art Week: Domestic Interventions and Hotel Installations
Amid Hong Kong Art Week, while Art Basel takes center stage, various installations and interventions throughout the city explore the intersections of art, design, and daily life. In a residence located in the New Territories, Vitamin Creative Space from Guangzhou hosted a 'Listening Session' featuring Lebanese artist-composer Tarek Atoui, who introduced two innovative instruments that transformed the living room into an auditory experience. Atoui's performance included records, drums, gongs, and water sounds, merging performance with installation. In Kowloon at The Peninsula Hotel, artist Angel Hui showcased goldfish designs on windows and Rolls-Royce vehicles, reflecting on the visibility of public and private spaces. Her fish, embroidered in plastic bags, nods to Mong Kok's Goldfish Market. Hui and Kingsley Ng are set to represent Hong Kong at the 2026 Venice Biennale. Albert Yonathan Setyawan collaborated with the Victoria & Albert Museum to present ceramic tiles, while collector William Lim showcased a surreal tapestry derived from a painting, challenging the boundaries between art and design. The Art in Resonance program at The Peninsula continues to feature these works.
