Homo Faber Event returns to Venice with global craftsmanship showcase

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The second edition of Homo Faber Event, organized by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, is open until May 1, 2022 at Fondazione Giorgio Cini on San Giorgio Maggiore island in Venice. The exhibition features 400 artisans and designers from over 40 countries, presenting more than 850 objects representing 110 different crafts. Fifteen curated displays cover ceramics, paper, fashion, jewelry, perfumes, furniture, tea ceremony, automotive, floral design, and theater, with a special focus on Japan and its ancient traditions. Sixty-five artisans work on-site in the Fondazione Cini spaces, demonstrating techniques and materials to visitors. The event also extends into Venice's streets, where local artisan workshops are part of a distributed network accessible via self-guided tours. General curator Alberto Cavalli stated, 'We believe that, even in these times of unprecedented change, there will always be something that human hands can do better than any machine: love and create with love.' Silversmith Jean-Pierre Cottet-Dubreuil, whose work is featured in the Next of Europe exhibition, expressed hope that the event will spark curiosity among young people to consider artisan careers. The Michelangelo Foundation, a non-profit based in Geneva, supports contemporary artisans with a focus on inclusivity and sustainability.
