Home Works V Forum in Beirut Explores Radical Pedagogy and Gaming's Political Power

festival-fair · 2026-04-20

Earlier this spring, Ashkal Alwan hosted Home Works V in Beirut, Lebanon, which spanned ten days and centered on education. On April 29, 2010, at Monnot Theatre, Kodwo Eshun and Steve Goodman delivered a presentation titled 'Kriegspiel 2.0: The Immersive Image,' exploring the immersive nature of video games and their connections to modern politics. Additionally, three panels focused on radical pedagogies, with one on April 26 at Babel Theatre, moderated by Walid Sadek, featuring Okwui Enwezor, CAMP, and Mahmoud Natout. Another panel took place on April 27 at Metropolis Empire Sofil, featuring Gregory Sholette, Yazid Anani, Judi Werthein, and Nato Thompson. The event, which was free for nearly 500 attendees, highlighted critical engagement and introduced the Home Works Academy, a post-undergraduate art institution in Beirut.
