HOME Manchester Launches with Exhibition Inspired by Ödön von Horváth

exhibition · 2026-04-20

HOME, a new Manchester cultural institution formed from the merger of Cornerhouse and the Library Theatre Company, has launched with its first exhibition, The Heart is Deceitful. Co-curated by Sarah Perks, HOME's artistic director for Visual Arts, and senior visiting curator Omar Kholeif, the show draws inspiration from Ödön von Horváth's play Kasimir and Karoline. It features works by a dozen contemporary artists, including a performance film melodrama by Wu-Tsang with Alexandro Segade, whose Zurich exhibition is reviewed in the Summer issue of ArtReview Asia. Also on view are a video installation by 2014 FutureGreat Flaka Haliti and an 11-metre long neon sign by May 2014 ArtReview cover artist Ragnar Kjartansson, depicting stereotypical suffering Nordic artists. Alongside the exhibition, HOME presents a curated film programme with UK premieres of films by Rosa Barba and Stanya Kahn, as well as a theatre adaptation of Von Horváth's play by Simon Stephens. The institution's opening marks a significant development in Manchester's arts scene, combining visual arts, film, and theatre under one roof. The exhibition and related programmes are detailed on ArtReview's website, with the source URL provided for full information.
