HOK unveils renovation design for Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte

HOK has unveiled its designs for the refurbishment of Bank of America Stadium, located in Charlotte, North Carolina, which serves as the home for the NFL's Carolina Panthers. The initiative, commissioned by Tepper Sports & Entertainment, focuses on modernizing the 75,000-seat facility instead of constructing a new one. Opened in 1996 and originally designed by Wagner Murray Architects and Populous (formerly HOK Sport), the stadium will feature a revamped facade with sleek metallic bands replacing the old concrete arches, a roof over the exterior mezzanine, and glass cladding. Interior enhancements will include a social patio, upgraded gathering areas, and athletic facilities. Additionally, new public plazas and landscaping will enhance accessibility. A separate entertainment venue with over 4,000 seats is also in the works, though it falls outside HOK's project. Groundbreaking is set for 2027, with the stadium continuing operations throughout the construction phase. HOK's design is inspired by the landscapes and culture of the Carolinas, incorporating metal, glass, and wood finishes.
