HOBO, New Urban Art Space in Modena, Opens with Angelo464 Show

HOBO – Spazio Urbano, a new public space dedicated to graffiti writing and contemporary urban culture, has opened in Modena's historic center at via Carteria 104. The inaugural exhibition, titled "Peso Reale, Peso Frenato," features works by Angelo464. The space is curated by artist Gianmario Sannicola, in collaboration with URBANER – Culture Urbane Emilia-Romagna. HOBO is run by the Associazione Culturale Stoff, which was awarded the space by the Comune di Modena – Assessorato alla Cultura through the public call "Carteria 26+104." The project builds on the urban regeneration initiative "Dedalo" and aims to present graffiti writing not merely as a social phenomenon but as a source of contemporary artists. The name HOBO references American "hobos" of the late 19th century who traveled illegally on freight trains, embodying a romantic freedom. Future programming includes artists such as Francesco Barbieri and Emiliano Properzi. Sannicola, a co-organizer of the seminal Modena muralism festival Icone (2002–), developed the concept with input from independent curator Pietro Rivasi and other experts.
