Hiwa K Awarded Documenta's 2016 Arnold Bode Prize
Hiwa K, an artist born in Iraq and based in Berlin, has been named the winner of the 2016 Arnold Bode Prize, an annual award given by the Documenta Foundation in Kassel. The prize ceremony will take place at Kasseler Kunstverein on 3 November 2016. His artistic practice includes video installations, sculptures, and performances that critically examine art education, the professionalization of art, and the concept of the solitary artist. Hiwa K has been featured in group exhibitions such as La Triennale in Paris and the "Edgware Road Project" at London's Serpentine Gallery. His ongoing "Chicago Boys" project is presented by various international institutions. He previously participated in Manifesta 7 and the 2015 Venice Biennale. In 2017, he is set to be part of documenta 14.
