Hito Steyerl's AI-themed installation premieres at Castello di Rivoli in November
Hito Steyerl will present a new multimedia installation titled The City of Broken Windows at Castello di Rivoli in Turin, opening on 1 November and continuing through June. This marks her first new installation since Hell Yeah We Fuck Die from 2016, which debuted at the Bienal de São Paulo and is currently displayed at Kunstmuseum Basel. The work explores artificial intelligence industries and surveillance technologies, examining museums' contradictory roles today. Chris Toepfer's trompe-l'oeil window paintings will be used to board up the institution as part of the installation. Both Steyerl and Castello di Rivoli director Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev have previously topped ArtReview's Power 100 list, in 2017 and 2012 respectively. A symposium and study day on Artificial Intelligence is scheduled for 12 December, accompanied by a new publication from the museum. Curator Marianna Vecellio collaborated with Christov-Bakargiev on the project, which was announced on 10 September 2018.
