Hito Steyerl Awarded First EYE Prize for Art-Film Intersection
Hito Steyerl, a Berlin-based artist and writer, has received the inaugural EYE Prize, which includes £25,000 to support the creation of new work. The award is a joint initiative between Amsterdam's EYE film museum and the Paddy & Joan Leigh Fermor Arts Fund, established to emphasize connections between contemporary art and cinema. Every fourth year, EYE will organize an exhibition featuring the three most recent prize recipients. The 2015 jury was composed of Sandra den Hamer, Chief Executive Officer of EYE; artists and directors Chantal Akerman, Isaac Julien, and Béla Tarr; Stuart Comer, Chief Curator for Media and Performance Art at MoMA in New York; cultural entrepreneur and collector Martijn Sanders; and Olivia Stewart, a trustee of the PJLF Arts Fund. The prize recognizes Steyerl's contributions to the field.
