Hito Steyerl and Simon Denny to Discuss AI Authorship at Digital Art Mile Basel
On Friday 20 June, the Digital Art Mile in Basel will host a panel discussion titled 'Creative Authorship in the era of Generative AI' featuring artist Hito Steyerl, artist Simon Denny, and critic J.J. Charlesworth. The panel will address how generative AI blurs human and machine creativity, ethical attribution concerns, and strategies for artists to retain agency. Steyerl, a German artist and writer known for her work with AI and machine learning, authored 'Medium Hot: Images in the Age of Heat' (2025) and 'Duty Free Art: Art in the Age of Planetary Civil War' (2017). Denny, from Auckland, New Zealand, explores NFTs and the metaverse in his practice and is a professor at HFBK Hamburg. Charlesworth is an art critic and editor at ArtReview.
