Hiroshima Museum Screens Mel Chin's 9-11/9-11 Film and Graphic Novella

The Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art is currently featuring Mel Chin's animated film '9-11/9-11', which is entirely hand-drawn. This screening is part of the exhibition 'The 12th Hiroshima Art Prize: Mel Chin'. The film explores two pivotal events on September 11: the 2001 terrorist attacks in the U.S. and the 1973 military coup in Chile. Chin, who directed and wrote the film, worked alongside artists, voice actors, and musicians from both countries to delve into the effects of state violence on personal experiences. On September 11, 2007, the film was shared live between New York and Santiago. A graphic novella related to the film was produced shortly after the World Trade Center tragedy and given away free in New York on September 11, 2002. The museum will host the screening from July 25 to October 12, 2026, at no charge, highlighting Chin's themes of historical memory and political insight.
