Hippolyte Hentgen's 'Chambre rose, chambre grise' at Galerie Semiose

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Galerie Semiose in Paris presents 'Chambre rose, chambre grise', an exhibition by the artist duo Hippolyte Hentgen, consisting of Gaëlle Hippolyte and Lina Hentgen, from September 8 to October 6, 2012. The gallery space is divided lengthwise into two distinct zones: one with a pink candy-colored wall and the other with pale gray. Visitors move between these areas to discover a collection of human, animal, and organic figures embedded in various settings. Using collected photographs, the artists have grafted into a domestic space a couple with long blue fur, a woman accompanied by a two-headed animal, each with a feather instead of a nose—an insect and a robot. The home environment is disturbed by uncanny creatures. Also on view are dark landscapes, fabric appliqué hangings with chivalric subjects, and a striking portrait of Jean-Luc Verna as a faun. With humor and ardor, Hippolyte Hentgen breaks down hierarchies and blurs boundaries between practices. The duo extends this whimsical universe into performance, developing completely silent pieces where visual arts and performance dialogue in a living, experimental vision of creation.
