Hines selects four Italian firms for Milan's largest urban regeneration project
Hines, the multinational real estate investment firm, has announced the four architecture studios selected for Unione Zero, the first phase of MilanoSesto, Europe's largest urban regeneration project. The 1.5 million square meter site on the former Falck steelworks in Sesto San Giovanni will be transformed into a sustainable urban hub with a masterplan by Foster+Partners. The four selected Italian teams are Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel (ACPV) for offices and a 60-meter hotel with 250 rooms, Barreca & La Varra for subsidized housing, Park Associati for a student residence with 700 beds, and Scandurra Studio Architettura for market-rate residences. The project includes a 45-hectare park by LAND, the Città della Salute e della Ricerca by MC A Mario Cucinella Architects, and a new railway station by June 2023. Construction begins in the second half of 2021, aiming for LEED, WELL, and Cradle to Cradle certifications.
