Hilario Isola camouflages Pellizza da Volpedo on a 40-meter wall in La Morra

On April 23, 2017, artist Hilario Isola will unveil 'Il quarto paesaggio' in La Morra, Italy, a large-scale camouflage intervention on a 40-meter concrete wall near the Belvedere bastions. The work reproduces an enlarged detail from Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo's painting 'Lo specchio della vita' (belonging to GAM – Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Torino), printed on an eco-sustainable outdoor textile. Supported by Sublitex (Miroglio Textile), Ferrino&C, and Sinterama, and with technical assistance from the Centro Conservazione e Restauro 'La Venaria Reale', the piece is part of the 'Atelier del camouflage' project, commissioned by the Regione Piemonte through the 'Dopo l’UNESCO, Agisco!' call, in synergy with 'Nuovi Committenti Langhe-Roero e Monferrato' by a.titolo and Fondation de France. The initiative aims to beautify industrial blights in the UNESCO-listed Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato landscapes. From close, the mural reveals Pellizza's rich divisionist colors; from afar, it blends with the surrounding nature, creating a novel mimesis between real and painted landscape.
