Hiha Studio restores Catalan vault and oak floors in Barcelona century home

architecture-design · 2026-06-01

Hiha Studio has renovated a 105-square-meter century-old apartment in Barcelona's Farró neighborhood, uncovering original Catalan vaulted ceilings with wooden beams and ceramic tiles hidden beneath 1970s alterations. The project reconfigures the layout into open, fluid spaces that maximize natural light and connect to a 50-square-meter terrace. Oak parquet flooring runs throughout, while wet areas use large-format porcelain tiles. A central kitchen acts as a visual and functional connector. Recovered Reno chairs by Federico Correa and Alfonso Milá blend with contemporary furnishings. The studio prioritized preserving structural memory while adapting to modern domestic needs.
