High Line Announces 2021 Commissions Under 'The Musical Brain'

exhibition · 2026-04-24

The High Line in New York has revealed its 2021 commission series titled 'The Musical Brain'. This series will showcase sound and sculpture installations by various artists, such as Rebecca Belmore, Vivian Caccuri, and Raúl de Nieves. Additionally, works by Ibrahim Mahama and Hannah Levy, which were delayed from 2020 due to COVID-19, are set to debut in April. Cecilia Alemani, the chief curator also involved with the 2022 Venice Biennale, described the commissions as 'playful, thoughtful, and hopeful'. Following Simone Leigh's inaugural plinth commission last year, models from 12 artists shortlisted for the 2022 and 2024 plinth commissions will be on display, including names like Iván Argote and Nick Cave.
