Hidden Klee Works Revealed in Zentrum Paul Klee Exhibition

Curator Marie Kakinuma has identified drawings, watercolours, or paintings on the verso of 600 of Paul Klee's 9,600 works. The presentation 'Fokus. Klee’s versos' at Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern showcases 19 examples from the permanent exhibition 'Kosmos Klee', revealing recto-verso compositions. These hidden works testify to continuing processes, reused materials, or chance posthumous discoveries. Non-transparent supports like canvas or cardboard often required restoration or scientific examination to uncover verso depictions. One example is the verso of Klee's 'Glass Façade'.
