Hicham Berrada's First German Institutional Solo Show at Galerie Stadt Sindelfingen

Hicham Berrada's first institutional solo exhibition in Germany, 'Aléas,' runs from September 29, 2024, to February 16, 2025, at Galerie Stadt Sindelfingen. The show presents a survey of the Moroccan-born, Roubaix-based artist's work, including new and earlier pieces. Berrada's practice uses scientific methods to activate natural processes, creating installations, sculptures, videos, and performances that evolve over time. The title 'Aléas' refers to coincidences, highlighting the role of randomness in nature. Central to the exhibition is 'Chambre climatique' (2024), a dark glass terrarium with a misty garden and PLA sculptures that decompose into organic matter. Video works 'Les oiseaux' (2014) and 'Celeste' (2014), created at Villa Medici in Rome, feature painterly interventions: seagulls circling a light beam and colored smoke dispersing in the sky. The 'Cartes mères' series (2021–ongoing) immerses computer motherboards in electrolytic baths, forming mineral landscapes. 'Permutations' (2023) shows circuit boards dissolving in electrolytic solutions. An immersive 360° video of the 'Presage' series (2007–ongoing) displays chemically activated minerals in aqueous solutions. New works 'Keromancies' (2024) use keromancy—pouring melted wax into water—to create 3D-printed sculptures via photogrammetry and bilateral symmetry algorithms.
