Hervé Koubi's Sol Invictus Premieres at NYU Abu Dhabi with Van Cleef & Arpels Support
Choreographer Hervé Koubi is set to debut his new dance piece, Sol Invictus, on September 5-6, 2024, at The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi, thanks to support from Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels. The production features 17 dancers who blend contemporary and urban styles, creating a lively ballet that combines hip-hop flair with aerial techniques. Originally from Cannes, France, and of Algerian heritage, Koubi studied dance and biology at the University of Aix-en-Provence and graduated from the Rosella Hightower School of Dance. His previous works include Le Golem and the recent What the Day Owes to The Night. Bill Bragin, the Executive Artistic Director, expressed enthusiasm for Koubi's return, especially in light of the center's 10th anniversary. Sol Invictus explores themes of love, peace, and hope, inspired by the Roman god and midwinter customs, showcasing acrobatic movements that emphasize unity.
