Hermès Unveils Skeletonized H08 Squelette Watch with New Movement
Hermès has introduced a skeletonized version of its H08 watch, the H08 Squelette, featuring a new in-house caliber H1978S with a 60-hour power reserve. The open-worked design is inspired by urban architecture, with titanium case and dial, and Super-LumiNova-coated hands and numerals for legibility. The movement is tested to withstand 10 years of wear and is water-resistant to 100 meters. CEO Laurent Dordet stated this new-generation movement will underpin future Hermès watches, though not necessarily in skeleton or titanium. The watch is priced at $21,600. Hermès is expanding its watchmaking facility in Biel, Switzerland, adding 75,000 square feet and 100 employees to its existing 43,000-square-foot space and 300 staff. The brand's approach prioritizes design and creativity over technical performance, a contrast to traditional Swiss watchmaking. Creative director Philippe Delhotal emphasized restraint as part of Hermès's DNA. The H08 has become one of the brand's strongest timepieces in the U.S.
