Hermès Artisans Take Over Rome's Ara Pacis Museum

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

From March 8 to 16, the Museo dell'Ara Pacis in Rome hosts Hermès Dietro le Quinte, a traveling festival showcasing the craftsmanship of the French luxury house. Founded in 2011 as an evolution of the Festival des métiers (which toured globally for 35 editions), the event coincides with the sixth generation of the founding family taking leadership: CEO Axel Dumas, Artistic Director Pierre-Alexis Dumas, and Vice President Guillaume de Seynes. Over ten days, artisans from ten métiers demonstrate the creation of bags, ties, jewelry, watches, gloves, and porcelain across a 1,000-square-meter exhibition space. A 360-degree virtual reality film reveals the artistry of Saint-Louis crystal workers, a company founded in 1586 and acquired by Hermès in 1989.
