herman de vries selected as Dutch representative for 2015 Venice Biennale

The Mondriaan Fund has selected 83-year-old artist herman de vries to represent the Netherlands at the 2015 Venice Biennale. His practice explores connections between humanity and the natural world. A jury chaired by Mondriaan Fund director Birgit Donker made the decision, with members including Hester Alberdingk Thijm of the AkzoNobel Art Foundation, Cooper Union dean Saskia Bos, artist Aernout Mik, and Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam curator Martijn van Nieuwenhuyzen. Prior to the biennale, the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam will present a retrospective of de vries's work opening in October 2014.
