Heritage Auctions to Sell Only Sealed First-Production Mario Bros. in August Video Games Sale
Heritage Auctions will offer the only known sealed first-production Mario Bros. cartridge for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Graded PSA 9.2 A++, the copy leads the August 28–29 Video Games Signature Auction. Evan Masingill, the auction house's Consignment Director of Video Games, described it as an unmatched one-of-a-kind item. Mario Bros. is the first game named for Nintendo's mascot, introducing floating coins, turtle enemies, and Luigi, and changing Mario's occupation from carpenter to plumber. Originally a modest arcade hit, it joined the NES lineup in 1986 as a predecessor to Super Mario Bros. The sale follows Heritage's June 12–13 video game auction.
