Heritage Auctions' Spring Design events, comprising the Early 20th Century Design Signature Auction on April 30 and the Modern Design Signature Auction on May 1, collectively garnered over $2 million, signaling a robust comeback for the auction house's recently revitalized Design department. Among the highlights from the Modern Design auction were Lino Tagliapietra's Dinosaur (2017), which achieved a record-setting $60,000, and a Dale Chihuly chandelier (2001) that fetched $106,250. Both pieces were purchased by first-time bidders at Heritage, illustrating the department's widening influence and the increasing interest in design across various collecting sectors. Samantha Robinson, Heritage's Vice President of Design, referred to the lead-up as an "energy surge."
