Herald St Opens Bologna Space for 20th Anniversary

London gallery Herald St will open a new space in Bologna on February 6, 2026, marking its first location outside the UK and its 20th anniversary. The 100+ sqm venue at Via Valdonica 14 is in a historic building in the medieval city center, joining the gallery's existing spaces in Bethnal Green and Bloomsbury. Co-founders Nicky Verber and Ash L'Ange cited Bologna's cultural scene—including MAMbo, Fondazione MAST, and Palazzo Bentivoglio—and its proximity to Venice, Milan, and Florence as strategic reasons for the expansion. The inaugural show will be a solo exhibition of new works on paper and canvas by New York-based artist Matt Connors (b. 1973, Chicago), his fifth with the gallery. Herald St first engaged with Bologna in 2020 with a group show at Via dell'Inferno, organized with Galleria Spazia for its 40th anniversary. In 2021, the gallery began representing Bologna-based artist Francis Offman, and in 2024, Pablo Bronstein had a solo show at Garage Bentivoglio. The gallery will also participate in Arte Fiera 2026 with a group exhibition of 28 artists. Currently, both London locations feature a double show of 92-year-old Italian artist Lucia Di Luciano, highlighting over 60 years of her paintings and collages. A third solo show in London for Offman is also planned. Founded in 2005 by Ash L'Ange and Nicky Verber, Herald St represents 28 international artists and participates in fairs including Art Basel and Frieze London.
