Hera Büyüktaşçıyan's Blue Fabric Transforms Naples Aqueduct

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Hera Büyüktaşçıyan, a Turkish artist born in Istanbul in 1984, has been chosen by curators Chiara Pirozzi and Alessandra Troncone for the second iteration of Underneath the arches, taking place at the Augustan Aqueduct in Borgo della Sanità, Naples. The artist drapes a striking blue fabric throughout the archaeological site, flowing through the arches like water and reimagining ancient subterranean routes. This dynamic inversion serves as a vessel for the collective memory of the city, offering an alternative perspective on historical narratives. The metaphor of water embodies memory, history, and time, encouraging exploration beyond visible surfaces toward the understanding of the unseen. In From There We Came Out and Saw the Stars, viewers are invited to dive into a historical ocean while gazing at a modern sky that has transformed into archaeology.
