Adelphi has republished Henry James's notebooks, originally released by Theoria in 1986, under the new title 'Ormai non poteva succedere più nulla', a phrase taken from a 1895 note by James. The edition is curated by Ottavio Fatica, with a postface by the same, and includes an introduction by biographers F.O. Matthiessen and Kenneth B. Murdock. The notebooks reveal James's obsessive revisions in pursuit of linguistic exactness and realism of consciousness, often reworking even published texts.
