Henrik Strömberg's Glass and Serigraphs Dialogue with Gutai at Palazzo Spinelli

exhibition · 2026-05-04

At Palazzo Spinelli di Tarsia in Naples, Fondazione Morra presents "Refraction of Lightness/Rifrazione di luce," a solo exhibition by Swedish Berlin-based artist Henrik Strömberg (b. 1970). Curated by Chiara Valci Mazzara and Loredana Troise, the show follows an artist residency at Casa Morra. Strömberg's works—hand-blown glass volumes, serigraphs on paper, and large canvases—engage with the legacy of Gutai, particularly Shōzō Shimamoto's canvases permanently installed at the venue. The serigraphs, produced at Laboratorio Avella with master printers Gianluigi Prencipe, incorporate photographic negatives and fragments, while the glass forms echo Pompeian vases and contain burnt newspapers. The installation creates an immersive environment exploring light, perception, and objecthood, challenging conventional semantics. The exhibition reinforces Fondazione Morra's role in fostering unconventional research and dialogue with the territory through its Quartiere dell'Arte project.
