Henrik Olai Kaarstein's 'Well Received Lies' at T293 Rome

Henrik Olai Kaarstein (b. 1989) presents his first solo show at T293 gallery in Rome, titled 'Well Received Lies'. The exhibition explores human ambiguities and complications through three series. A wedding dress hangs from the ceiling, its lower part printed with images of US-Arab political meetings, symbolizing politics softened by romantic love. A second series uses found photographs from the artist's computer, manipulated in black and white with white chalk and charcoal, revealing raw scenes: a man in a corset or a nude woman on a bed. The show closes with abstractly assembled film posters, where fragments of arms and mouths amplify the message of films about impossible or complicated love. The exhibition runs until May 14, 2016.
