Henraux Foundation 2018 Award Winners Announced
The fourth edition of the Henraux Foundation Award, a biennial prize established in 2012 to foster creativity in marble sculpture, has been completely revamped. Winners Francesco Arena, David Horvitz, Diego Marcon, and the collective Anto. Milotta – Zlatolin Donchev were selected from 67 participants by a jury. They worked with white marble from Altissimo at Henraux's quarries and facilities in Querceta, Lucca, collaborating with engineers, designers, and craftsmen. Arena's work contrasts marble with cigar ash; Horvitz's piece disperses marble fragments for the public; Marcon's sculpture is a 3D-printed child; the collective's work inverts Michelangelo's concept of matter and art. The jury, chaired by Edoardo Bonaspetti, includes Ilaria Bonacossa, Eike Schmidt, Roberta Tenconi, and Andrea Viliani. The Accademia dell'Altissimo now includes Cristiana Perrella, with Jean Blanchaert, Aldo Colonetti, Mikayel Ohanjanyan, and Costantino Paolicchi reconfirmed.
