award · 2026-04-20

Henning Fehr and Philipp Rühr, German video artists, have been awarded the 2016 BMW Art Journey. Their project explores global connections by linking Jamaican Dub music with Rem Koolhaas's CCTV Tower in Beijing. This journey will take them to Jamaica, China, North America, and Europe, where they plan to interview dub musicians, follow them on tour, document studio sessions, and investigate the architectural importance of the CCTV Tower. They were selected from a shortlist of three candidates, which also featured Fritzia Irizar and Dan Bayles, whose works were showcased in the Positions section at Art Basel's Miami Beach event in December 2015. The announcement was made on 18 February 2016, as part of the second edition of this initiative by BMW and Art Basel.
