Henn Studio to Redesign Munich's Gasteig Cultural Center
Since 1985, Munich's Gasteig cultural center, situated along the Isar River, has been a hub for 1,700 events each year, drawing more than 6,000 visitors daily. After three decades, the center is set for a transformation following an international design competition, which was won by the German firm Henn in October. The firm plans to revamp the facade into a permeable structure, eliminating the brick curtain to enhance connectivity with the surrounding urban area through a grand staircase. This design will improve accessibility, incorporate natural shading, and introduce greenery. Additionally, a new glass bridge will connect different sections, forming a "Kulturbühne" (cultural stage) that maintains the unique identities of the Philharmonic, Carl Orff Auditorium, library, and MVHS. A new restaurant, Ausblick, will be located atop the Philharmonic, offering stunning panoramic views.
