Hengshan Calligraphy Biennale 2025 Explores Writing as Living Practice Across East Asia

The second Hengshan Calligraphy Biennale is set to open on December 20, 2025, at the Hengshan Calligraphy Art Center, showcasing 87 artworks by 45 artists from Taiwan, China, and Japan. Curated by Lin Chun-chen, with contributions from advisors Gong JowJiun, Ohara Toshiki, and Tanigawa Masao, the exhibition is titled 'Calligraphy in Movement: From Literati’s Desk to People’s Streets.' It features a blend of professional and amateur works, including historical pieces dating back to the 17th century and contemporary pieces addressing social concerns, such as Li Ken-cheng’s 2015 pollution warning written on the beach. The Biennale will also take place in Qingpu district venues and includes an opening performance by Lim Giong and Ho Chia-hsing. Organized by the Taoyuan Museum of Fine Arts, the event will continue until April 13, 2026, offering educational outreach and public programs.
