Helsinki Biennial 2023 reveals artist lineup for second edition themed on environmental and geopolitical crises
Scheduled to commence on 12 June 2023, the Helsinki Biennial, curated by Joasia Krysa, is themed New Directions May Emerge, focusing on issues like environmental decline, geopolitical tensions, and the impacts of technology. Featured artists include Matti Aikio (Sápmi), Diana Policarpo (Portugal), Ahmed Al-Nawas & Minna Henriksson (Finland), Dineo Seshee Bopape (South Africa), Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley (UK/Germany), and the group RED FOREST. The program will showcase Golden Snail Opera, featuring Anna Tsing, Yen-ling Tsai, Isabelle Carbonell, and Joelle Chevrier, along with Remedies by Sasha Huber and Petri Saarikko. Other contributors are Alma Heikkilä, Tabita Rezaire, INTERPRT, Emilija Škarnulytė, Keiken, Yehwan Song, Sonya Lindfors, Jenna Sutela, Lotta Petronella, Suzanne Treister, Asunción Molinos Gordo, Adrián Villar Rojas, Tuula Närhinen, Zheng Mahler, and PHOSfate. This marks the second edition of the biennial in Helsinki.
