Helmut Newton Foundation Celebrates 100 Years of Hollywood Photography

The Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin will host a major exhibition from June 2 to November 20, 2022, celebrating 100 years of Hollywood through the lenses of renowned photographers. The show features works by Eve Arnold, Anton Corbijn, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Inge Morath, Steve Schapiro, Alice Springs, and publications by Annie Leibovitz and Ed Ruscha. Helmut Newton's own photographs, spanning from the 1960s to the 1990s, often reference film, including scenes from Alfred Hitchcock and the French New Wave. His fashion photography from the 1960s mimics cinematic frames, while his portraits from the 1970s onward resemble artistic stills. In the 1980s and 1990s, Newton photographed actors at the Cannes Film Festival and fashion on the Croisette. The exhibition is an homage to Hollywood's timeless allure, which continues to draw people to Los Angeles seeking work in the film industry.
