Helmut Barnett's 'Surfaces' at Wally Workman Gallery, Austin

Wally Workman Gallery in Austin opened 'Surfaces,' a solo exhibition of Helmut Barnett, running April 11 to May 3, 2026. The show spans painting, collage, and drawing, often combining these mediums. Barnett, born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1946, moved to Abilene, Kansas in 1957, later served in the Air Force, and earned a BFA from the University of Texas in 1974. Over 50 years, he has developed a visual language blending geometric and organic forms on large canvases and intimate collages with found materials. The gallery, established in 1980, occupies a 120-year-old historic house and focuses on emerging and collected talent. The exhibition is part of Glasstire's Five-Minute Tours series, featuring a video walk-through.
