Hellwatt Festival in Reggio Emilia in Chaos After Artistic Director Fired

The Hellwatt festival in Reggio Emilia, which is set to showcase Kanye West, is facing serious challenges following the dismissal of its artistic director, Victor Yari Milani, by the organizing firm C.Volo. This decision, attributed to "visions no longer fully aligned," comes after prolonged internal conflicts and management difficulties, such as budget overruns and ineffective communication. Milani, who had little recognition in the industry, was responsible for overseeing one of Italy's largest music festivals. With the event less than two months away at the Campovolo area (RCF Arena), the festival must now find a new artistic director, rebrand from Hellwatt to RCF Arena, and handle ticket sales, which currently lack sold-out dates. The lineup features artists like Kanye West, Travis Scott, and Wiz Khalifa, with artist fees estimated between 25 to 30 million euros, primarily paid upfront, putting C.Volo at significant financial risk. Milani has reportedly filed legal action against C.Volo and suggested that the festival might relocate, a claim viewed as unlikely. The festival's future is uncertain, with three potential scenarios: proceeding with losses, scaling down, or outright cancellation.
