Helix Residence: SAOTA's Hillside Oasis in Los Angeles

SAOTA, a renowned architecture firm from South Africa, has finalized the Helix Residence, a private dwelling situated in the Bird Streets region above Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, USA. Completed in 2024, this project spans 1,390 square meters. The design is inspired by the city’s modernist hillside living tradition, harmonizing architecture with the landscape to enhance light, vistas, and openness. Engaging with the steep terrain, the residence achieves a balance between privacy and sweeping views of the city below. The project was led by SAOTA's design team, with Mike Kelley providing photography and Hadir Al Koshta overseeing curation. The Helix Residence showcases SAOTA's commitment to contemporary residential design, emphasizing the relationship between space, light, and scenery.
