Hélio Oiticica and Neville D'Almeida's Cosmococa Book Launch at Chelsea College of Art
Afterall and TrAIN hosted the London launch of 'Hélio Oiticica and Neville D’Almeida, Block-Experiments in Cosmococa' on Wednesday 20th November 2013 at Chelsea College of Art & Design. The event featured a discussion with co-author Max Jorge Hinderer Cruz. The book, part of the One Work series, was co-authored by Sabeth Buchmann and Cruz. It analyzes the Cosmococas, a series of works by Oiticica and D'Almeida, examining the influence of the New York underground scene and Brazilian avant-garde cinema. The authors also draw on concrete poetry and writings by Marshall McLuhan and Henri Bergson to explore the works' experimentation with duration, blurring of formats and languages, and modes of spectatorship. The event was free and held from 18:00 to 20:00 in the Lecture Theatre and Green Room.
