Hélène de Franchis, Verona gallerist and art world maverick, dies at 82
Hélène de Franchis, who managed Studio La Città in Verona for more than fifty years, passed away at the age of 82. She was born in Tangier in 1943 and relocated to Verona in 1969, where she established her first gallery with Carla Panicale, highlighting artists such as Luigi Spazzapan and Toti Scialoja. Significant exhibitions included showcases of British artists in 1972 and American artists in 1973. In 1973, she also presented "Io non rappresento nulla, io dipingo," featuring Giorgio Griffa among others. From 1974, de Franchis engaged in art fairs and later concentrated on minimalist painting. In 2007, she moved the gallery, continuing to host ambitious exhibitions until her last, "Wind is in no rush," in 2023.
