Heinz Mack Exhibition at Galleria Gentili's New Florence Space

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Galleria Gentili has opened a new exhibition space in Florence with a show of paintings and steel works by German artist Heinz Mack (born 1931 in Lollar). Mack's primary expressive medium is light, explored through its interaction with space, seriality, chromatic intensity, and the contrast between darkness and light. In his black-and-white works, monochrome and serial structures reduce light to white while black creates a relief effect. In his color works, luminous compositional rigor correlates chromatic intensity with light intensity, reflecting Mack's view that 'color is light and light is color.' In his steel works, Mack uses the metal to create a dialogue between light and surrounding space through movement and the phenomena with which light interacts. The exhibition runs until December 20, 2016, at Borgo Pinti 80r-82r, Florence.
