Heiner Kipphardt's 'Brother Eichmann' Published in Italian

publication · 2026-05-31

Heiner Kipphardt's 1982 play 'Brother Eichmann' has been translated into Italian for the first time, published by Bonanno. The translation was done by Emilia Fiandra, a Germanist who also wrote the introduction. The play's title was inspired by Thomas Mann's 1939 essay 'Brother Hitler', which explored the diabolical deviation of German genius. Kipphardt, born in Silesia (now Poland) in 1922, came from an anti-Nazi family; his father was arrested on January 27, 1933. The play is a powerful symbolic incarnation of the perversion of German culture into crime and collective guilt.
