Hedi Slimane Curates Robert Mapplethorpe at Galerie Thaddeus Ropac, Paris
Hedi Slimane, Dior Homme director and artist, curated a Robert Mapplethorpe exhibition at Galerie Thaddeus Ropac in Paris from October 14 to November 19, 2005. The show features Mapplethorpe's early necklaces, Polaroids, and photo assemblages, including a cruciform motif recurring across works. Portraits of rockers like Debbie Harry and a poetic assembly of a skull, a hand firing a gun, and Lisa Lyon with a crystal ball are highlights. Two films are screened: one by Slimane with Marianne Faithfull, another by Mapplethorpe featuring Patti Smith. An empty chair from Mapplethorpe's studio sits at the gallery's center. Slimane previously contributed to 'Thank you for the Music' at Galerie Mager Spruth and will exhibit 'Fragmentations' at Galerie Almine Rech from January 7 to February 25, 2006.
