Hedgehog-Inspired Urban Living Library Reconnects Fragmented City Habitats

Fengyi Wu, a designer, has introduced 'Urban Living Library – Reclaiming the Hedgehog Habitat', a landscape architecture initiative that highlights the hedgehog as a key species for reconnecting fragmented urban environments. This proposal envisions a web of ecological corridors, gardens, and outdoor educational areas, revitalizing neglected urban spaces to benefit both wildlife and the community. The design merges ecological infrastructure with human activities, incorporating elements like planting, water features, and shelters to promote harmony. It features dense vegetation, wildlife habitats, and rainwater gardens, allowing urban dwellers to engage with nature while supporting wildlife. The masterplan, which emphasizes ecological connectivity and public involvement, was submitted to designboom's DIY submissions and edited by Christina Vergopoulou.
