Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination at the Met in Spring 2018

At a press conference held at Rome's Palazzo Colonna, which was delayed due to snow, the Costume Institute revealed its spring 2018 exhibition titled Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. Cardinal Ravasi spoke about the significance of clothing within Christianity. This exhibition will take place at the Met Fifth Avenue and Met Cloisters, showcasing items from the Vatican, including Pius IX's tiaras and Benedict XV's cope. Curator Andrew Bolton outlined a thematic experience beginning with a scene from Fellini's Roma. Notably, ecclesiastical art from the Sistine Chapel sacristy will be exhibited at the Anna Wintour Costume Center for the first time. The exhibition will debut with the Met Gala on May 7, 2018, chaired by Amal Clooney, Rihanna, Donatella Versace, and Anna Wintour.
