Heatherwick Studio unveils Firefly Pavilion for Louisville's Belvedere

Heatherwick Studio has unveiled plans to revamp Belvedere, a civic area situated in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, nestled between the Ohio River and the commercial district. This initiative follows the studio's recent launch of London's Olympia in July 2026. The elevated site, covering roughly four American football fields, will incorporate pavilion-style buildings and abundant greenery. Central to the design is the Firefly Pavilion, intended for year-round activities and events. Originally opened in 1973, Belvedere has seen a decline over the years. The studio engaged with local residents to shape the design. Construction is set to commence this autumn, with a grand opening expected in 2030. Thomas Heatherwick, the founder and design director, highlighted the goal of reconnecting the space with the city to foster a vibrant urban hub for community events and celebrations.
