Heatherwick Studio to Redesign Prague Historic Center with Savarin Hub
Heatherwick Studio, led by British designer Thomas Heatherwick, has been commissioned to redesign a 15,000-square-meter block in Prague's historic center, near Wenceslas Square. The project, named Savarin, includes the baroque Savarin Palace (home to the Mucha Museum), existing buildings, and internal courtyards. Developer Crestyl aims to transform the closed block into an open, welcoming space blending culture, architecture, gastronomy, and community. Plans feature a Time Out Market food hall, retail, workspaces, cultural venues, and a new system of public spaces including staircases, terraces, and hanging gardens. A new underground metro entrance will be created. Construction is expected to conclude by 2029. Heatherwick, known for London's Coal Drops Yard, Tokyo's Azabudai Hills, and the Vessel at Hudson Yards, will also direct the fifth Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism starting September 26, themed 'Radically More Human.'
