market-auction · 2026-08-05

For $1.2 billion, Hearst has acquired Walt Disney Co.'s 50 percent share in A+E Global Media, concluding their joint venture that began in 1984. This acquisition grants Hearst complete ownership of A+E Networks, which encompasses A&E, History, and Lifetime, in addition to various content studios and streaming platforms. A+E has also invested in Vice, Propagate Content, Atlas Obscura, and Philo TV. Following the deal's closure later this year, A+E will become part of Hearst's entertainment division. Hearst's CEO, Steven R. Swartz, expressed gratitude to Disney for their collaboration, while A+E's Paul Buccieri highlighted the strength of the brands and their asset library. Disney and Hearst became equal partners in 2012 after purchasing NBCUniversal's stake, with Disney exploring options last year and hiring Wells Fargo.
