publication · 2026-04-27

Studio Ghibli has announced the release date for its upcoming film directed by Hayao Miyazaki, his first feature in ten years since 'The Wind Rises'. Titled 'Kimi-tachi wa Dō Ikiru ka' in Japanese, the film will premiere in Japan on July 14, 2023. The international version is expected to be titled 'How Do You Live?', based on the 1937 novel by Yoshino Genzaburō. The story follows 15-year-old Junichi Honda, nicknamed 'Coper' after Copernicus, who learns to think independently with his uncle's guidance. The novel, published in Italy as 'E voi come vivrete?' by Kappalab, is a coming-of-age tale about a boy confronting bullies with his friends. Miyazaki, aged 81, is credited as director, screenwriter, and animator. The film aligns with Studio Ghibli's themes of peace, ecology, and harmony between humans, machines, and nature.
